Hi Kelli, Lia, Isaac and Kevin! I am sorry that I can not be with you today :( For your work today, you will investigate finding the area of a variety of regions. First, please go to the following sites and go through the material that is related to this. This tutorial discusses the basics; click on this and read through it: http://library.thinkquest.org/3616/Calc/S3/AoR.html The following was very cool. I hope it works at school for you. I used the flash for #1. Go through several to get the hang of it. See if it works! http://archives.math.utk.edu/visual.calculus/5/area2curves.3/index.html Finally, go through your book. First, look at the definition of Area between Curves on page 375. Second, look at the example 2 on page 376 for area of an enclosed region. Finally, look at example 4 on page 377 and how it changes on page 378 and page 379.
When doing areas of regions between curves you should: 1. Graph the region. 2. Draw a slice which is perpendicular to the axis. 3. Find any intersections that are important. 4. Set up the integral (see definition!). 5. Evaluate the integral.
Homework: 380/ 1 - 12, 19, 20 You do not have to do parts 1, 2, 3, for the first 10 but be sure to do them for the other 4.
See you tomorrow!
